About Me

Hello, and welcome!

My name is Kate Fredenberg, and I am a licensed clinical social worker. I graduated from the University of Montana in 2006 with a BS in Psychology, with an emphasis in sexuality and gender studies. I completed my Masters degree at the University of Washington School of Social Work in 2011, and have been providing therapy to clients of diverse backgrounds since that time. I have worked in a variety of settings, including community mental health, outpatient substance abuse treatment, community based advocacy, and outreach programs. I currently work full time as a mental health therapist at the University of Washington.

I believe we all have a deep foundational need to belong and be seen. Systems of oppression  (such as white supremacy, racism, classism, sizeism, ableism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia and others) teach us that we are flawed, we lack value, and that we will never be enough. They cut us off from connection and are maintained through shame, fear and isolation, separating us from ourselves, from each other, and from our own communities. These beliefs become deeply internalized and  stored in our bodies, hearts, minds, and souls. To reclaim our power, we must nourish meaningful connection in all aspects of our lives, rebuild trust with our bodies and emotions, and reconnect with the world around us. I believe therapy can be an intentional, expansive space to create and support this healing process.

While I have experience and expertise working with a wide variety of clinical issues, I am particularly passionate about serving queer and marginalized communities.  I have significant experience working with gender identity and gender oppression, sexuality, “coming out”, intersectional identities, multi-cultural issues, and transgender/non binary identities.

what's the greatest lesson a woman should learn?

that since day one, she's already had everything she needs within herself. it's the world that convinced her she did not.

"The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change."
